It’s important to me & this new venture that it’s done as responsible as possible. Using thrifted, upcycled when I’m able to. These two pieces are part of a spice set I’ve had for years. They were picked up at a second hand store but they never really served their purpose. I prefer my spices in jars so I can quickly see what they are and grab them (I’m a whirlwind in the kitchen). I debated giving them away last week but held on and I’m glad I did. I had exactly enough wax from the old candle to fill these two! What are the chances? The others will be up in the shop launch this week.

Chai, tobacco, cedar candle made from soy wax & a hemp wick. I gifted this to my partner this Yule along with a few other things including a vintage turntable set up. We decided last year that we would have a smaller holiday, and spend less this year. For me, that turned into “how can I do better?”. I wanted to buy second hand, give experiences/memories, diy, eco friendly and support small businesses. We even went waste free when wrapping our gifts… well almost completely waste free. My partner did buy 1 roll of paper as back up but we didn’t need it! For the big gifts, I used blankets and large boxes. String, old ribbon, and fake flowers. I always keep gift wrapping, gift bags, bows, ribbons etc so I can reuse them. I also have a couple large totes of fake flowers that were gifted to me). For the smaller gifts I used brown packing paper & some old wrapping paper, ribbons, and bows. The packing paper was larger than I needed, so instead of cutting it, I folded the edges. This means it will be reusable in the future for & no scraps flying around. A few things went in bags, but I didn’t have any old tissue paper. Usually the cats & bunnies get it to play with, so it’s next to destroyed by the end of their playtime. I ended up going in the closet, and rifling through my scarf hook. You may have to prop up the scarf with the gift, or a filler to get the tissue paper “fluff” we’re all used to. I just used more scarves for this and it worked fine. Clean up was a breeze to! All paper was folded up and put into one of the gift bags, and ribbons & bows got tossed in too. I’ll probably go through it and organize it better before we officially put away the Yule decor.

That was our “do better” holiday. Did you make any changes this year? Do you have plans to switch things up next year?
